California Debating Free Down Payments On Home Loans for Illegal Aliens
California is competing for the title of the best place to illegally flee to in the United States with what seems to be a never-ending list of state-funded benefits for illegal immigrants. The latest effort by a Fresno area assemblyman is geared toward providing a home loan benefit to first-time homebuyers who have entered the country illegally.
With the dream of homeownership slipping out of the fingers of young American families, this possible addition could make it even harder for Californians to get the benefits their tax dollars pay into. The question that should be on top of every legal California citizen’s mind should be why California lawmakers want to make it more appealing for illegal immigrants to flock to their state.
The non-American dream
Assemblyman Joaquin Arambula has introduced a bill to expand the eligibility for a California state loan program to include illegal immigrants. The current program, the California Dream for All Shared Appreciation Loan, offers first-time home buyers a loan worth 20% of the purchase price.
The loan accrues no interest and requires no monthly payments. When the home buyer sells their home, they are required to pay back the loan plus 20% of the increase in the home value.
Initially meant for low to middle-income Californians, Mr. Arambula argues it should also be available to illegal immigrants residing in the state.
Mr. Arambula explains:
“Homeownership has historically been the primary means of accumulating generational wealth in the United States. The social and economic benefits of homeownership should be available to everyone.”
Not everyone in California is keen on the idea of legal California citizens having to compete for a state-funded home loan with illegal immigrants. State Senator Brian Dahle counters with this argument, stating that this addition to the original bill is:
“…an insult to California citizens who are being left behind and priced out of homeownership. I’m all for helping first-time homebuyers, but give priority to those who were here in our state legally.”
However, priority to California citizens isn’t on Governor Gavin Newsom’s agenda.
Flee to The Golden State!
California has approved in the last few years an incredible amount of state-funded benefits for illegal immigrants. In addition to being eligible for in-state tuition and financial aid for state schools, illegal immigrants in California also receive health care courtesy of the California taxpayer.
Governor Newsom recently expanded a 2015 program that included illegal immigrant children in the state’s version of Medicaid to include adults over the age of 50. Care would include hormone and sex change surgeries paid for by California citizens to the estimated cost of $3.1 billion.
The state even has a monthly income program for illegal immigrants called the Cash Assistance Program for Immigrants or CAPI. The program is a:
“…100 percent state-funded program designed to provide monthly cash benefits to aged, blind, and disabled non-citizens who are ineligible for Supplemental Security Income/State Supplementary Payment (SSI/SSP) solely due to their immigration status.”
The wording is interesting in the above; instead of calling these individuals illegal immigrants, California rebrands them as “non-citizens” or classifies them as though they are stuck due to some administrative error by using the phrase “due to their immigration status.”
Mr. Arambula does the same with the language in his home loan bill update:
“…an applicant under the program shall not be disqualified solely based on the applicant’s immigration status.”
What status is that exactly? With benefits like these it’s no wonder individuals from near and far are flocking our southern border with no regard for our laws.
Why follow the rules when you can break them and get more benefits than the rule followers and actual citizens who foot the bill for those same benefits?
